Pumas Punch Through Roadrunners

The 12U Maricopa Pumas and Ironwood Roadrunners clashed in a hard-hitting youth football battle that had momentum swinging with every snap. Ironwood struck first with an early passing touchdown, but the Pumas’ relentless defense and explosive plays down the stretch flipped the game in their favor.

Ironwood opened the scoring in the first quarter when #3 connected for a touchdown through the air, but their 2-point attempt came up short. In the second, Maricopa’s defense came alive — #25 picked off two passes, taking the second all the way down to the 1-yard line. That defensive spark set up #42 to punch it in for the touchdown, followed by a one-handed snag and 2-point run by #3 to give the Pumas their first lead of the day.

The third quarter turned into a shootout. Ironwood pounced on a fumble, but #4 stripped the ball on the very next drive, giving the Pumas another shot. #39 capitalized with a powerful touchdown run, and #25 converted the 2-pointer. Ironwood responded in a flash — #3 took the kickoff 60 yards to the house, though a bad snap kept the extra points off the board. The Pumas answered right back as their QB hit #39 on a 30-yard strike to stretch the lead.

In the fourth, the Pumas defense delivered the dagger. #42 came down with an interception, and moments later the QB powered into the end zone on a 5-yard run, with #15 sealing it on the 2-point conversion.

The Pumas showcased toughness, big plays, and clutch defense to close it out, proving they can rise when it matters most.
