Raiders Shut Down Mavericks

The Raiders AZ 13U defense came out like a locked gate with no key in sight, shutting down the Goodyear Jr Mavs from the opening snap and never letting them find a rhythm in a 13–0 win.

Right away, the Raiders set the tone in the first quarter when #21 punched in a touchdown to give them the early lead. The extra point attempt from #61 did not go through, but the message was already clear, this defense came to control the game. The Mavericks struggled to move the ball upfield, especially through the air, as pressure came quickly and consistently from the Raiders front.

In the second quarter, the Raiders struck again. #88 found the end zone, and this time they converted on the ground with #21 securing the extra point to stretch the lead to 13–0 heading into halftime. The Raiders defense continued to swarm, limiting any chance for Goodyear to build momentum.

The second half brought a different energy from the Mavericks. They leaned into a more physical, power-based approach and began to push forward with more confidence. Defensively, #13 came up with a big sack in the third quarter, giving Goodyear a spark and showing signs of life.

But every time the Mavericks tried to build something, the Raiders answered. In the fourth quarter, #5 came away with a key interception to halt a drive, while the Mavericks defense responded with a takeaway of their own as #12 grabbed an interception to keep hope alive. Still, the Raiders defense slammed the door shut once again, adding another sack from #21 to close things out.

Despite a stronger second half effort from the Mavericks, the Raiders were simply too fast, too disciplined, and too relentless from start to finish.
