Outlawz Showcase Defensive Playmaking Against Desert Devils as Conway Delivers 98-Yard Pick-Six
The 13U Outlawz delivered a performance highlighted by defensive takeaways, explosive plays, and determined individual efforts against the Desert Devils on Saturday, October 10, securing a 14-0 victory. Kairo Conway and Cameron Moore emerged as key contributors, with Conway producing a 98-yard interception return for a touchdown and a fourth-quarter forced fumble and recovery.
The Outlawz opened the first quarter with No. 0 finding the end zone for a touchdown. The ensuing point-after attempt was unsuccessful, but the early score established momentum for the Outlawz.
The biggest play of the opening quarter came from No. 17, Kairo Conway, who intercepted a Desert Devils pass and returned it 98 yards for a touchdown. Conway used his speed to outrun the pursuing defense and complete one of the game's most memorable plays. The Outlawz successfully converted the following point-after attempt on a run.
The Outlawz carried a 14-0 lead into the second quarter after scoring all of their points in the opening period.
The Desert Devils responded with a defensive highlight of their own in the second quarter. No. 1 intercepted a pass and returned it approximately 40 yards, advancing the ball to the Outlawz 10-yard line and putting the Desert Devils in scoring position.
However, the Outlawz defense answered when No. 32 recovered a fumble, ending the threat and returning possession to the Outlawz.
The Outlawz continued to generate offensive opportunities during the second quarter, including a 40-yard run by No. 0, Cameron Moore.
Moore later described the importance of his teammate Caden, No. 8, during the long run. According to Moore, Caden provided blocking support along the sideline, allowing him to follow the block before cutting back toward the field.
"My blocker, number 8, Caden, he was on the sideline with me, and I was running off him 'cause he was blocking," Moore explained.
Moore also discussed his touchdown reception during his postgame interview. He described catching the pass, surveying the field, and turning toward the end zone to finish the play.
Neither team added points in the second quarter, leaving the Outlawz ahead 14-0 at halftime.
The third quarter passed without any notable scoring or turnover plays included in the game notes, setting the stage for another defensive battle in the final period.
In the fourth quarter, the Desert Devils continued to compete defensively when No. 83 recorded an interception, giving his team another opportunity with possession.
Conway responded with another major defensive play for the Outlawz. After the interception, Conway stripped the football from the opposing player and recovered the fumble himself, immediately returning possession to his team.
The play demonstrated Conway's determination to regain possession even after the Desert Devils appeared to have secured a turnover.
Following the game, Conway reflected on his 98-yard interception return and the instincts that helped him complete the touchdown.
"I didn't think it was gonna happen. But it happened," Conway said when asked about the return.
When asked what was going through his mind as defenders pursued him down the field, Conway emphasized the importance of his speed.
"It makes me feel like I gotta use my speed to my advantage," Conway explained.
Conway also discussed his fourth-quarter strip and recovery, describing his determination to regain possession after the interception.
"'Cause he picked it, so I was thinking, I gotta do something to get the ball back. So I stripped it, recovered it," Conway said.
For Moore, the performance provided another opportunity to build confidence as the Outlawz approached the postseason.
When asked about his team's playoff outlook, Moore expressed confidence in his teammates and their ability to compete.
"I have faith in my team, and I feel like we can show up and do what we need to do," Moore said.
The Outlawz finished the matchup with several notable defensive plays, including Conway's 98-yard pick-six, his fourth-quarter strip and recovery, and No. 32's second-quarter fumble recovery.
The Desert Devils created opportunities through their own defensive takeaways, but the Outlawz prevented them from reaching the scoreboard. With all 14 points coming in the first quarter, the Outlawz maintained their advantage through three scoreless periods to complete the 14-0 shutout victory. The performance showcased their ability to create opportunities through defensive pressure, turnovers, and explosive offensive plays.
