Demons Defense and Big Plays Outlast Tonopah Jr Phoenix in High-Energy Battle
The Elmirage Jr Demons brought the heat from the very first snap and held off a late push from Tonopah Jr Phoenix in a wild back-and-forth 13U showdown.
In the first quarter, the Demons wasted no time making noise — #4 came up with an early interception, setting the tone. Shortly after, #18 scored a touchdown, and #10 hit the extra point pass to take the lead. But Tonopah Jr Phoenix fired right back, with #3 finding the end zone, then making the extra point pass to himself for a quick answer.
The Demons kept the pressure on. #9 added a touchdown, #99 scooped up a fumble, and #2 scored next off a broken play, even though the extra point snap was too high to convert.
In the second quarter, Phoenix tried to swing momentum their way with a fumble recovery by #22, but the Demons defense answered again. #0 picked off a pass, ran it back about 20 yards, juked a defender, but then coughed it up before the end zone — #50 from Phoenix recovered the loose ball, giving his team another chance.
The Demons struck again in the third quarter, with #9 scoring his second touchdown of the day. The extra point attempt missed after a dropped catch near the goal line. Right after, Phoenix had a miscue on the kickoff — a bobble and too much hesitation let #4 from Elmirage swoop in and steal the ball back for his squad.
Late in the game, the teams traded big-time plays. Phoenix’s #1 ran in a touchdown, then #21 snagged the extra point pass. The Demons responded with another score from #18, but Phoenix wasn’t done. #18 dropped a dime — a nearly 50-yard bomb — for a touchdown, and #2 finished the play with a solid catch on the extra point.
It was a fast-paced, highlight-filled matchup with turnovers, trick plays, and clutch throws — but in the end, the Elmirage Jr Demons did just enough to edge out the win.
