Team California Explodes Early, Holds Off ITZ Vipers in 12–4 Victory
Team California Warriors Underclass came out swinging in Saturday morning's matchup at Goodyear Ballpark, jumping on ITZ Vipers Elite 17U early and holding steady to notch a 12–4 win in five innings.
Quick Start from Team California
California set the tone in the top of the 1st when #2 came around to score, aided by a dropped third strike and a fielding error. In the 2nd, they piled on five more behind aggressive baserunning, a passed ball, and a bases-clearing double by #31 to make it 6–0.
By the 4th inning, the Warriors had worked up a 7–0 lead, executing on pressure situations and taking full advantage of Vipers miscues.
Vipers Push Back
The Vipers sparked a response in the bottom of the 4th. Carter Purdy and Cameron Tichenor scored on a bloop single by Cooper Woeslaw that brought some energy back to the dugout, cutting the deficit to 7–2.
However, California answered with a relentless fifth inning. Highlighted by base hits and aggressive running, they tacked on five more runs to stretch their lead to 12–2.
Bailey Launches One Late
In the bottom of the 5th, Jackson Bailey delivered a bright moment for the Vipers. After Quinn Plummer reached base, Bailey blasted a two-run homer over the left-field wall, making it 12–4. It was a statement swing, but not enough to overcome the deficit, as the game ended by run rule.
