In a tightly contested Open Division semifinal, the Sunrise Mountain Mustangs delivered when the moment got heavy, striking twice in the second half to knock off Brophy College Prep 2 to 0 and punch their ticket forward. It was the kind of match that felt razor-thin for long stretches, with every run, tackle, and clearance carrying extra weight.
The first half played out like a defensive chess match. Both sides battled for possession, closed down space, and searched for that one clean opening that could tilt the match. Sunrise Mountain found a few dangerous moments in the attack, while Brophy kept pressing for a spark of its own, but neither side could crack the scoreboard before the break. After 40 minutes of tight, physical soccer, the teams went into halftime deadlocked at 0 to 0.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the second half when S. Hobbi found room in the attack and buried the first goal of the night to give the Mustangs the lead. Not long after, E. Pors added another finish to stretch the margin and put Sunrise Mountain firmly in control. Both goals were fueled by standout playmaking from M. Huisman, who recorded two assists and helped drive the Mustangs' offensive push when it mattered most.
While the attack supplied the finishing touch, Sunrise Mountain's defense slammed the door shut. Senior goalkeeper N. Roles was outstanding in net, turning away 11 shots on goal and preserving the clean sheet as Brophy kept testing late. With timely second-half scoring and a wall in goal, the Mustangs secured the 2 to 0 victory and moved on from the Open Division semifinal with authority.
