Scorpions Open Season Win Over Falcons
The Desert Edge Scorpions started their 2025 season on the right note, holding off a late push from Cactus Shadows to secure a 27–19 home victory.
Cactus Shadows struck first when D. Dixon (2) punched in a rushing touchdown to put the Falcons on the board 7–0. Desert Edge answered in the second quarter, as quarterback B. Roskopf (7) found rhythm through the air, leading a pair of scoring drives that sent the Scorpions into halftime ahead 14–7.
The third quarter saw more of the same, with Roskopf connecting with A. Honeywood (11) for a big play downfield before finishing the drive with another touchdown strike. Roskopf finished with 365 yards passing and three touchdown tosses, spreading the ball across a talented receiving corps that included B. Brandon (6), M. Coleman (9), and Honeywood.
Cactus Shadows made things interesting in the fourth. Dixon broke free for a 47-yard run that set up another score, while A. Dafnis (7) added a touchdown to cut the deficit. K. Conley (0) also hauled in a 14-yard touchdown pass earlier in the night, giving the Falcons some spark on offense. Dixon finished with 223 total yards, including 157 on the ground.
But Desert Edge’s defense stiffened when it mattered most. K. Wells (15) wreaked havoc with three sacks, while A. Para (13) and J. George (90) helped control the line of scrimmage. The Scorpions’ secondary also came up with timely turnovers, including an interception from M. Davis (4).
When the final whistle blew, Desert Edge had done enough to keep Cactus Shadows at arm’s length, securing a hard-fought win to open their campaign.
