Campo Verde Wins Wild Game 

What. A. Game. The Campo Verde Coyotes and Barry Goldwater Bulldogs went back and forth all night in a freshman/JV showdown that came down to the very last play. When the dust settled, Campo Verde pulled out a 35–34 thriller.

Barry came out swinging. #3 scored the first touchdown, and even though the two-point try missed, the Bulldogs had the early edge. Campo fired right back when #10 crossed the goal line, and #14 booted the kick straight through for the lead.

The Bulldogs weren’t done. In the second quarter, #8 snagged an interception, and #3 made it count with another touchdown — then ran in the two-point conversion himself. #22 added a score of his own, giving Barry all the momentum. Campo’s #4 answered to keep the Coyotes alive, but Barry struck once more with #8 powering in again.

Campo stormed back after halftime. #9 found the end zone, and #14 stayed perfect on the PATs. Both teams battled for turnovers — Barry’s #10 pounced on a fumble, then Campo’s #15 returned the favor — but the defenses held strong.

The fourth quarter was pure chaos. Campo’s #20 cut the lead with a touchdown, but Barry responded with yet another score from #8. The Coyotes weren’t finished. With the game on the line, #4 scored his second touchdown of the night, and #14 drilled the extra point to give Campo a one-point lead.

Then came the play everyone will remember. With time running out, Barry’s quarterback launched a bomb to the end zone from the 35-yard line. The crowd held its breath — but Campo’s defense came down with the interception to seal the win.

Season Outlook

Barry Goldwater came into this matchup unbeaten, after rolling through their first two games — a 52–9 win over Deer Valley and a 44–13 win over Skyline. Campo Verde also entered hot, having opened the season with a 37–7 win over Sunnyside. With the victory over Barry, the Coyotes now sit at 2–0, while the Bulldogs fall to 2–1 but remain a dangerous squad.
