Canyon Del Oro Takes Team Win Behind Chloe Fay’s First-Place Round
Canyon Del Oro earned the team victory in a girls varsity golf match against Casa Grande Union and Vista Grande on August 20 at Dave White Golf Course in Casa Grande.
The Dorados finished with a team score of 176 (+32), led by senior Chloe Fay, who delivered the lowest individual round of the match with a 39 (+3).
Fay made her move early. After opening with a par on Hole 1, she recorded a birdie on the par-5 Hole 2 to move to 1-under. She remained even through Hole 3 before moving over par during the middle of the round. Fay closed with pars on Holes 6, 7 and 8 before finishing Hole 9 at +3 for the round.
Her 39 gave her a five-stroke advantage over the three golfers who tied for second at 44 (+8).
Casa Grande Union senior Lyla Shaw was among that group. Shaw began her round with back-to-back pars on Holes 1 and 2. She moved to +3 following Hole 3 and remained there through Hole 4 before eventually finishing the nine-hole round at +8.
Canyon Del Oro freshman Aubrie Smith also shot a 44, with one of her biggest moments coming on Hole 5. Smith entered the par-4 hole at +4 before recording a birdie to get a stroke back and move to +3. She finished the round at +8 to share second place.
Canyon Del Oro junior Lilliana Robinson completed the three-way tie for second with another 44 (+8), giving the Dorados three golfers among the top four individual finishers.
The Dorados continued to control the upper portion of the leaderboard with senior Annie Braeutigam, who shot a 49 (+13) to finish fifth, and senior Camryn Gross, who recorded a 51 (+15) for sixth.
Vista Grande was led by senior Giselle McAfee with a 60 (+24). Senior Brooklynn Bivvins followed at 63 (+27), senior Kendall Perez shot 64 (+28), senior Holland McClain finished at 66 (+30), and senior Seriah Torres recorded a 69 (+33).
With Fay taking first and Smith and Robinson sharing second, Canyon Del Oro placed three golfers inside the top four and finished with a winning team score of 176 (+32). Vista Grande placed second at 253 (+109), while the provided results did not list a complete team score for Casa Grande Union.
