Casa Grande Rallies Past Maricopa for 28-20 Victory

Casa Grande overcame an early deficit and scored 22 unanswered points across the second half to defeat Maricopa 28-20 Wednesday night at Casa Grande Union High School.

Maricopa struck first in the opening quarter when No. 88 returned a punt for a touchdown, giving Maricopa a 7-0 advantage.

Casa Grande responded in the second quarter. No. 21 found the end zone on a rushing touchdown, cutting Maricopa's lead to 7-6.

Maricopa answered before halftime, with No. 88 scoring his second touchdown of the game on a reception. The score extended Maricopa's advantage to 14-6 heading into the second half.

Casa Grande flipped the game in the third quarter behind No. 21. His second rushing touchdown helped the Cougars pull even at 14-14.

No. 21 struck again later in the quarter, scoring his third rushing touchdown of the night as Casa Grande moved ahead 22-14. The Cougars entered the fourth quarter with their first lead of the game.

Casa Grande added a defensive score in the fourth when No. 5 returned an interception for a touchdown, extending the Cougars' advantage to 28-14.

Maricopa continued to battle and answered with a kickoff return touchdown by No. 3, cutting the deficit to eight points.

Casa Grande held on from there to complete the comeback and secure a 28-20 victory over Maricopa.
