Bulldogs Power Past Skyhawks in Season Opener


The Barry Goldwater Bulldogs made a statement in their first game of the 2025 season, defeating the Deer Valley Skyhawks 52–9 in freshman football action on Wednesday night. Goldwater’s running attack and defensive pressure controlled the game from start to finish, while Deer Valley showed flashes of toughness in their home opener.


First Quarter – Bulldogs Strike Early

Goldwater running back #8 wasted no time, breaking into the end zone for three touchdowns in the opening quarter. Each score was followed by a successful run on the extra point, keeping the Bulldogs rolling. On special teams, #28recovered a kickoff to help set up another possession, while the defense stayed sharp as #12 and #15 combined for a sack.

Deer Valley did manage to get on the board late, with #8 breaking through for a safety.


Second Quarter – Skyhawks Answer Back

The Bulldogs kept pushing as #22 added a touchdown, though the extra point came up short. After another kickoff recovery by #42, Goldwater looked ready to extend the lead, but a fumble gave Deer Valley life.

The Skyhawks’ quarterback #7 connected with #15, then finished the drive with a touchdown run. #45 nailed the extra point to bring energy to the home sideline. Deer Valley’s defense followed with a sack by #35, but Goldwater responded with yet another touchdown from #8, capped off by an extra point run from quarterback #7.


Third Quarter – Running Clock Arrives

Goldwater extended its lead when #22 scored again, powering through defenders before running in the extra point himself. With the Bulldogs up big, the officials called for a running clock with 7:50 remaining in the quarter.


Fourth Quarter – Bulldogs Close the Door

Goldwater’s final punch came from #34, who muscled in for a touchdown. #3 tacked on the extra point, sealing the 52–9 win.


The Bulldogs opened their season with a dominant display of offense and defense, while Deer Valley showed grit and had key moments to build on moving forward. Both teams now look ahead to Week 2 with lessons learned and momentum to chase.
