Sahuarita Rolls Past Desert Sunrise in 43-0 Victory

Sahuarita took control from the opening quarter Friday night, building a 43-0 advantage over Desert Sunrise before the varsity football matchup at Desert Sunrise High School was called early because of injuries.

The Mustangs wasted little time establishing the lead. No. 1, Dane Hartnett, found the end zone during the first quarter, while No. 22 Axel Burgos and No. 4 also added first-quarter touchdowns as Sahuarita jumped ahead 20-0.

Sahuarita continued to pull away in the second quarter. No. 2 added another touchdown, and the Mustangs ultimately put 23 more points on the board before halftime to extend their advantage to 43-0.

Hartnett helped lead the Sahuarita offense, completing 12 of 16 passes for 124 yards and one touchdown. He also carried the ball five times for 45 yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Trent Hubble added a strong rushing performance with 79 yards and one touchdown on 10 carries. Burgos finished with 58 rushing yards and a touchdown on eight attempts, while Ethan Ahumada added 42 yards and a touchdown on three carries.

Through the air, Roman Tellez II led Sahuarita with five receptions for 78 yards. J. Riley recorded two catches for 19 yards and a touchdown, while Angel Cruz added 21 receiving yards on two catches.

Sam Kimbley handled the kicking duties for Sahuarita and converted five extra points. Hubble also converted a two-point attempt.

Sahuarita finished the shortened contest with six offensive touchdowns while holding Desert Sunrise scoreless. With the Mustangs leading 43-0, the game was called because of injuries before the second half could be completed.
