Westview had a late opportunity to close the gap, but Desert Sunrise No. 15 intercepted a pass intended for the end zone with approximately one minute remaining. The interception was returned to the 20-yard line, allowing Desert Sunrise to enter victory formation on the following play and secure the 28-18 win.
The Golden Hawks finished with four touchdowns, including rushing scores from No. 2, No. 9 and their quarterback, along with a touchdown reception by No. 8 on the first-quarter trick play.
Westview recorded three touchdowns, highlighted by No. 15's receiving touchdown and 70-yard kickoff return, along with No. 24's 20-yard rushing score.
Following the victory, Desert Sunrise freshman head coach Wehle expressed satisfaction with his team's effort and the opportunity to finish the evening with a win.
"I'm just happy for the kids," Wehle said. "Two more games on the season, and, you know, we go out with a W here. We got one more game next week. So I feel good about it."
Looking ahead, Wehle emphasized the importance of preparation and player development as the team continues navigating injuries.
"We got a lot of injuries, so making sure every rep counts," Wehle explained. "The guys that, you know, are backups and stuff that they know exactly what needs to happen when they get their number called."
Desert Sunrise's combination of early offensive execution, third-quarter scoring and a decisive late defensive play proved enough to withstand Westview's comeback effort and secure the 28-18 victory.
