Desert Vista Uses Relay Strength to Defeat Millennium 110-60
Desert Vista opened its season with a 110-60 victory over Millennium on September 3 in boys varsity swim & dive action, using victories across individual events and all three listed relays to secure the team win.
The Thunder started the meet by taking the 200 Medley Relay with the fastest time of 1:43.81. Desert Vista followed that performance with another victory in the 200 Freestyle, recording the meet’s fastest time at 1:51.26.
Millennium answered in the 200 IM, posting a winning time of 2:04.64. Desert Vista responded immediately in the 50 Freestyle, where a time of 23.08 gave the Thunder another event victory.
Millennium then put together its strongest stretch of the meet. The team won three consecutive individual events, beginning with the 100 Butterfly in 57.08. Millennium followed with a 48.88 in the 100 Freestyle before completing the run with a 5:23.27 victory in the 500 Freestyle.
The Thunder broke Millennium’s streak when the meet returned to relay competition. Desert Vista captured the 200 Freestyle Relay in 1:38.53, giving the Thunder its second relay victory of the meet.
Millennium answered once again in the 100 Backstroke, recording the fastest time at 56.34. Desert Vista took the next individual event, winning the 100 Breaststroke in 1:13.45.
The meet concluded in the pool with the 400 Freestyle Relay, where Desert Vista finished with a winning time of 3:29.90. The victory completed a sweep of the three listed relay events for the Thunder.
Millennium senior Ewan Cain said he felt good about his performance after winning both of his individual events. Cain also competed in the butterfly leg of the medley relay and anchored Millennium’s 400 freestyle relay.
For Cain, the opening meet was also about setting the tone for the season.
“It's mainly just to have fun. Come out here, compete. Get the season started with some good racing,” Cain said.
While Millennium collected victories in five individual events, Desert Vista combined its individual wins with a strong relay performance to finish the meet with the 110-60 team victory.
