Desert Vista Wins Nine Events in 114-56 Victory Over Millennium

Desert Vista put together a strong performance Thursday, defeating Millennium 114-56 in a girls varsity swim and dive meet.

Desert Vista established itself immediately in the opening 200 Medley Relay, recording the fastest time at 1:55.39. The Thunder followed by taking the 200 Freestyle in 2:04.90, giving Desert Vista victories in each of the first two listed events.

Millennium answered in the 200 IM, posting the fastest time of 2:27.90 to earn its first event victory of the meet.

Desert Vista responded with a lengthy run of victories. The Thunder won the 50 Freestyle with a time of 25.37, followed by the 100 Butterfly in 1:03.38 and the 100 Freestyle in 55.95.

The run continued in the 500 Freestyle, where Desert Vista recorded the fastest time at 5:39.58. The Thunder then captured the 200 Freestyle Relay in 1:48.27, extending their stretch to five consecutive listed event victories.

Millennium broke the streak in the 100 Backstroke, recording the meet's fastest time in the event at 1:06.38. It was Millennium's second event victory, joining its earlier win in the 200 IM.

Desert Vista closed the listed events with two more victories. The Thunder took the 100 Breaststroke in 1:12.90 before finishing the meet with a 3:57.94 performance in the 400 Freestyle Relay.

Desert Vista finished with the fastest time in nine of the 11 listed events, including all three relay events. Millennium earned victories in the 200 IM and 100 Backstroke.

For Millennium head coach Claire Townsend, the meet also provided an early-season measuring point for the program.

“Biggest takeaways is just kind of getting a picture of where we're starting in the season and kind of just looking forward now, seeing what we need to do in practice,” Townsend said.

While the final score favored Desert Vista, Townsend said she was encouraged by the way Millennium’s swimmers continued competing through adversity.

“I think what I noticed from the team was that everyone was finishing really strong,” Townsend said. “I also just saw the fight in some of the kids.”

Townsend pointed to several moments that stood out, including one swimmer finishing after losing her cap, another completing a 100-yard race after diving in without goggles, and relay swimmers continuing to push through the finish.

“I had relay swimmers just like powering through the finish,” Townsend said. “So I loved seeing that today.”

Desert Vista ultimately secured the overall meet victory with 114 points to Millennium's 56, while Millennium left the meet with two event victories and several performances its coach viewed as building blocks for the season ahead.
