Dysart came away with a 12-6 overtime victory over Desert Sunrise on Tuesday night in a 4A East Sky girls varsity flag football matchup at Dysart High School.

Neither team added to the scoreboard during the second quarter, allowing Dysart to carry its 6-0 lead into halftime.
The defensive battle continued through the third quarter with neither side finding the end zone. Dysart remained in front 6-0 heading into the final quarter.
Desert Sunrise finally broke through in the fourth quarter. No. 2 scored a touchdown to even the game at 6-6 and give the Golden Hawks an opportunity to take the lead. Sophomore Londyn Malone's extra point attempt was unsuccessful, leaving the game tied and sending the teams to overtime.
Dysart No. 3 delivered again in overtime, scoring a touchdown to put Dysart back in front. The extra point attempt was no good, keeping the score at 12-6 and giving Desert Sunrise an opportunity to answer.
Dysart's defense made sure the six-point advantage held. No. 3 recorded the game-sealing interception, completing the overtime victory and giving Dysart a 12-6 win over Desert Sunrise.
After the game, Malone pointed to communication, execution and supporting one another as areas that could help Desert Sunrise continue improving.
“I feel like what would help our team is cheering one another up to catch more of the balls and executing things we do in practice and using it in the game,” Malone said. “I feel we did really well with our defense communicating to get the easy flags. Also, when the offense started catching more passes and helping one another on the sideline and in the game.”
