Goodyear Pulls Away in Second Half for 30-0 Shutout of La Joya Community

Goodyear overcame a slow offensive start Wednesday night before breaking the game open in the second half, shutting out La Joya Community 30-0 at Goodyear High School.

The Mavericks struck first in the opening quarter when No. 19 found the end zone, giving Goodyear a 6-0 advantage.

That remained the only score of the entire first half. Neither team added points in the second quarter, sending Goodyear into halftime holding a narrow 6-0 lead.

The game changed after the break.

Goodyear began creating separation in the third quarter when No. 28 scored for the Mavericks. No. 26 followed with a successful two-point conversion, extending Goodyear's advantage to 14-0.

While the Mavericks' offense began finding opportunities, the Goodyear defense continued keeping La Joya Community off the scoreboard.

Goodyear then delivered its biggest quarter of the night in the fourth.
