Goodyear Finishes Strong to Take Down West Point

Freshman basketball always has a little chaos in it, and this one had plenty. After falling behind early, Goodyear flipped the energy, stayed composed, and stormed back for a 48–41 win over West Point.

West Point controlled the opening quarter and came out with the sharper rhythm, building a 17–7 lead while making life difficult for Goodyear on the offensive end. The pressure was real early, but Goodyear never let the game slip too far away.

The second quarter brought the first real shift. Goodyear attacked the basket with more confidence, turned defensive stops into points, and slowly cut into the lead. By halftime, West Point still held a 22–20 advantage, but the game had tightened up and the momentum was starting to lean.

The third quarter turned into a straight-up battle. Both teams traded baskets, answered runs, and kept the pressure on possession after possession. West Point carried a slim 35–34 lead into the fourth, leaving everything on the table for the final stretch.

That is where Goodyear took over. The defense tightened, the rebounding improved, and the transition game finally opened up. Goodyear outscored West Point 14–6 in the fourth quarter, using that late push to grab control and close out the comeback win.

West Point showed strong defensive energy and set the tone early, but Goodyear’s poise and execution down the stretch proved to be the difference. For a freshman matchup, this one had real fight, real swings, and a strong finish from Goodyear.
