Hamilton Sweeps AZ College Prep in 6A Premier Matchup
Hamilton delivered a straight-set victory over AZ College Prep on Tuesday night, sweeping the Knights 3-0 in a girls varsity volleyball matchup at Hamilton High School.
The Huskies established control in the opening set, defeating AZ College Prep 25-18 to take a 1-0 match advantage.
Hamilton continued to separate itself in the second set. The Huskies held AZ College Prep to 17 points and secured a 25-17 victory, moving within one set of completing the sweep.
Hamilton closed out its night with its most decisive set of the match. The Huskies defeated the Knights 25-12 in the third to complete the 3-0 sweep.
Despite winning all three sets, Hamilton head coach Sharon Vanis saw areas where the Huskies could continue improving.
“I thought they did what they needed to do to play a pretty clean game,” Vanis said.
Vanis noted that playing during a break can present challenges because players' schedules are different. She also pointed to Hamilton's serve receive and serving as areas that were inconsistent during portions of the match.
“Serve receive early was not great. Later is better,” Vanis said.
She particularly pointed to the second set, when Hamilton struggled with missed serves, including situations following timeouts and at the beginning of service opportunities.
With Hamilton getting into region competition, Vanis said the Huskies will continue working across several areas as the competition gets tougher.
“I think our blocking has to get better. Defense has to be better,” Vanis said. “Serving, serve receive, all that stuff always has to get better.”
Hamilton ultimately took care of business Tuesday, winning each set by an increasing margin and completing the three-set sweep, 25-18, 25-17 and 25-12.
