Hamilton Captures 6A State Championship With Stunning Comeback Victory

The 6A State Championship appeared to be slipping away early, but Hamilton delivered one of the most impressive rallies of the season. After falling behind by seven runs, the Huskies stormed back behind timely hitting, dominant relief pitching, and clutch execution to defeat Corona del Sol 10-7 and capture the 2026 6A State Championship.

The Aztecs came out swinging and quickly seized momentum in the second inning, stringing together hits and capitalizing on scoring opportunities to build a 7-0 lead. Corona del Sol finished the game with 11 hits and looked poised to take control early, putting Hamilton in a difficult position.

The Huskies responded in the bottom half of the inning with a run of their own before continuing to chip away. Hamilton added two more runs in the third inning, cutting the deficit to 7-3 and beginning to shift the momentum back toward its dugout.

That momentum fully arrived in the fifth inning. With runners on base and the offense finding its rhythm, Hamilton erupted for five runs to take its first lead of the game. The inning flipped the contest on its head, turning what had been a comfortable Corona del Sol advantage into a one-run Hamilton lead.

Hamilton added two insurance runs in the sixth inning and continued to apply pressure offensively throughout the afternoon. The Huskies finished with 12 hits and received contributions throughout the lineup.

Parker Rahn delivered one of the biggest performances of the day, finishing 2-for-4 with three runs scored, two RBIs, a double, and a home run. Ben Ball added another spark to the offense, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a double, and a triple. Kal Hampton collected two hits and an RBI, while K. De Santiago finished with two hits, including a double, and drove in a run. Tyler Nelson contributed two RBIs, and Alex Wells and Cory Wuttke each added an RBI as Hamilton's lineup continued to produce in key situations.

After the difficult start, Hamilton's pitching staff settled in and gave the offense a chance to rally. Ryder Bell worked through the first two innings before Dean Thompson entered in relief and completely changed the tone of the game. Thompson delivered five scoreless innings, allowing just four hits while striking out three and limiting every Corona del Sol scoring threat the rest of the way.

The defensive effort also played a major role in the comeback. Hamilton committed just one error while turning multiple double plays and making several key defensive stops that prevented the Aztecs from adding to their early lead.

Despite the loss, Corona del Sol showcased the offensive firepower that carried the Aztecs to the championship game, collecting 11 hits and building a significant early lead. In the end, Hamilton's resilience, balanced offensive attack, and outstanding relief effort proved to be the difference as the Huskies completed an unforgettable comeback and claimed the 2026 6A State Championship trophy.
