Hamilton Holds Off Perry 30-22 to Remain Unbeaten
Hamilton built a three-touchdown lead in the opening quarter and survived a second-half comeback from Perry to earn a 30-22 victory Friday night at Hamilton High School.
The Huskies wasted little time taking control.
Hamilton No. 11 opened the scoring with a receiving touchdown to give the Huskies a 7-0 advantage.
Hamilton No. 8 followed with a rushing touchdown, extending the lead to 14-0. No. 12 then added another receiving touchdown as the Huskies finished the first quarter ahead 21-0.
Neither team scored during the second quarter, sending Hamilton into halftime with its 21-point advantage intact.
Perry began its comeback after halftime.
No. 8 recorded a receiving touchdown to put the Pumas on the board at 21-6.
Perry continued to close the gap when No. 12 scored on the ground, bringing the score to 21-13 by the end of the third quarter.
Hamilton finally added to its first-quarter total in the fourth when No. 19 converted a field goal, pushing the Huskies' advantage to 24-13.
Perry immediately answered on special teams.
No. 11 returned a kickoff for a touchdown, cutting Hamilton's lead to 24-19.
A Perry field goal then made it a two-point game at 24-22.
With Perry threatening to complete the comeback, Hamilton No. 28 delivered a rushing touchdown to give the Huskies breathing room and establish the final 30-22 margin.
Hamilton's 21-point opening quarter ultimately proved decisive. Perry outscored the Huskies 22-9 over the second half, but Hamilton protected its lead and closed out the eight-point victory.
The win moved Hamilton to 3-0 on the season, while Perry moved to 2-1.
