La Joya Community Shuts Out Desert Sunrise 54-0

La Joya Community broke open a scoreless game with 24 points in the second quarter and continued pulling away in the second half, defeating Desert Sunrise 54-0 Wednesday night in a 4A Southwest boys frosh football matchup at La Joya Community High School.

Neither team scored during the opening quarter, sending the game into the second period tied 0-0.

La Joya Community took control in the second quarter. No. 24, No. 9 and No. 31 each scored touchdowns as the Lobos built their advantage. La Joya also recorded a safety against Desert Sunrise.

The scoring notes included two successful two-point attempts and one unsuccessful attempt involving No. 24 as La Joya carried a 24-0 lead into halftime.

The Lobos continued adding points immediately after the break. No. 31 returned the kickoff for a touchdown to begin La Joya's third-quarter scoring.

Special teams struck again when No. 18 returned a punt 60 yards for another touchdown. No. 3 and No. 21 also reached the end zone during the quarter as La Joya added 24 points and extended its lead to 48-0.

The third-quarter notes also recorded successful conversion attempts involving No. 21 and No. 27, along with an unsuccessful attempt by No. 24.

La Joya Community added one final touchdown in the fourth quarter. No player number was listed for the score, which pushed the final margin to 54-0.

Desert Sunrise was held scoreless through all four quarters as La Joya Community completed the 54-0 shutout.
