Maricopa Sweeps Betty H. Fairfax in 5A Metro Volleyball Matchup
Maricopa delivered a commanding performance Tuesday night, sweeping Betty H. Fairfax 3-0 in a girls varsity volleyball matchup at Maricopa High School. The Rams controlled all three sets, earning victories of 25-21, 25-17, and 25-13 to secure the straight-set win.
The opening set featured the closest competition of the evening, with Betty H. Fairfax keeping the score competitive before Maricopa closed out a 25-21 victory. The Rams carried that momentum into the second set, extending their advantage with a 25-17 win to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Maricopa continued to build on its performance in the third set, holding Betty H. Fairfax to just 13 points. The Rams finished with a 25-13 victory, completing the sweep while allowing fewer points in each successive set.
Following the match, Maricopa's Asja Holloman reflected on the team's development throughout the season, emphasizing the growth the players have experienced individually and collectively.
"I think my team performance has been so much better since the beginning of the season. We've grown so much individually but also as a whole. We had a rough start, but now we are better than ever," Holloman said.
Holloman also highlighted the importance of maintaining energy, supporting teammates, and improving the smaller details as Maricopa continues its season.
"We will prepare ourselves by focusing on the little things and celebrating. Lots of energy and lots of love within our team. We will practice and lock in on things we're struggling on. We're not perfect, but I believe we can get close enough to perfect," Holloman said.
The straight-set victory demonstrated Maricopa's ability to strengthen its performance throughout the match. With each set, the Rams increased their winning margin, closing the evening with a 12-point advantage in the final frame.
For Maricopa, the victory represented another opportunity to build on the growth Holloman described, with teamwork, preparation, and attention to detail remaining central to the Rams' approach.
