Millennium Outlasts Sunnyslope in Overtime Thriller

When the top two teams in Arizona’s Open Division meet, it never feels like just another regular season game, and Millennium’s 77–71 overtime win over Sunnyslope carried every bit of that heavyweight energy. With Sunnyslope ranked No. 2 in Arizona’s Open Division and No. 3 nationally, and Millennium sitting at No. 1 in Arizona and No. 8 in the nation, the stage was already loaded before the ball even went up.

The Vikings came out sharp and set the tone early, using pace, shot-making, and crisp ball movement to grab a 22–18 lead after the first quarter. But Millennium answered in the second. The Tigers settled in defensively, controlled possessions better, and started winning key moments around the basket, turning the tide with a 22-point quarter to carry a 40–38 lead into halftime.

The third quarter tightened into a defensive grind, with both teams making every pass, drive, and clean look feel earned. Sunnyslope edged the frame 11–10, and the fourth quarter turned into pure playoff basketball. Every possession had weight, every answer was met with another answer, and neither side could create separation as the game was knotted at 64 heading into overtime.

That is where Millennium made its move. The Tigers turned stops into opportunities, stayed composed at the line, and controlled the extra period by a 13–7 margin to close out the 77–71 win. The result also flipped the script from the teams’ first meeting on January 21, 2026, when Sunnyslope escaped with a 61–57 victory. This time, Millennium finished the job in a game that felt like a preview of something much bigger still ahead.
