Mountain Pointe Shuts Out Maricopa in 47-0 Road Victory
Mountain Pointe took control early Friday night and never surrendered it, building a 40-point halftime advantage before completing a 47-0 shutout victory over Maricopa at Maricopa High School.
The Pride established themselves immediately in the opening quarter, scoring 19 unanswered points while keeping the Rams off the scoreboard.
Among Mountain Pointe’s first-quarter highlights was a rushing touchdown from No. 33. The score helped the Pride build their 19-0 advantage by the end of the opening quarter.
Mountain Pointe’s offense continued rolling in the second quarter. No. 24 found the end zone on the ground for the Pride’s first touchdown of the quarter. The successful point after increased Mountain Pointe’s lead to 26-0.
The Pride then turned to their passing game. No. 11 hauled in a receiving touchdown for Mountain Pointe’s next score. Another successful PAT pushed the advantage to 33-0.
Mountain Pointe wasn’t finished. No. 24, who had already scored on the ground earlier in the quarter, added a receiving touchdown to his night. The Pride converted the extra point and entered halftime holding a commanding 40-0 advantage.
After Mountain Pointe’s explosive first half, neither team scored during the third quarter. The Pride defense continued keeping Maricopa off the scoreboard, sending the game into the fourth with Mountain Pointe still leading 40-0.
Mountain Pointe added one final touchdown in the fourth quarter when No. 84 recorded a receiving touchdown. The Pride followed with another successful PAT to extend the lead to 47-0.
That would be the final score of the night.
Mountain Pointe’s offense produced touchdowns both on the ground and through the air, with No. 24 highlighting the attack by scoring once as a runner and once as a receiver. No. 33 contributed a first-quarter rushing touchdown, while No. 11 and No. 84 each recorded receiving scores.
Just as impressive was the performance on the other side of the ball. Mountain Pointe’s defense did not allow Maricopa to score in any of the four quarters, completing the shutout.
