Sabercats Finish Strong to Capture 4A Championship
Saguaro came ready to play and finished strong with an 11–4 win over ALA - Gilbert North in the 4A Championship game.
The game started fast for both teams. Saguaro scored two runs in the first inning, but ALA - Gilbert North answered right back with four runs of its own. That gave the Eagles an early 4–2 lead and made it look like the championship could swing back and forth all day.
Saguaro did not let that early punch slow them down. In the second inning, the Sabercats delivered a huge response, scoring five runs to take the lead back and shift control of the game.
The Sabercats kept adding pressure from there, scoring once in the third, once in the fifth, and two more in the seventh. Their offense stayed balanced and made it difficult for ALA - Gilbert North to climb back into the game.
Max Pena had a big day for Saguaro, going 3-for-5 with four runs scored and one RBI. Ricky Faulkner added two hits and two runs scored, while A. Gomez-Gudino helped power the offense with two hits, two RBIs, and a home run.
Chasen Niemann added a triple, an RBI, and two runs scored. Zander Bratspis and Kyle Miiller each drove in two runs, giving Saguaro production throughout the lineup.
ALA - Gilbert North had strong moments early. Tate Clarkson hit a home run, Grady Poulsen finished with two hits, and Nash Bigham added a double and an RBI. The Eagles started fast, but they could not keep the offense rolling after the first inning.
Saguaro’s pitching helped change the game. Jude Dravecky struck out seven batters and helped the Sabercats settle in after the opening inning, while Nate Wachinski finished the game with 3.1 scoreless innings and four strikeouts.
After allowing four runs in the first inning, Saguaro did not give up another run the rest of the way. The Sabercats’ offense, pitching, and defense all came together when it mattered most, closing out an 11–4 championship win.
