Saguaro Edges Out O’Connor

Saguaro and Sandra Day O’Connor battled it out under the lights in a back-and-forth freshman matchup that came down to execution and big defensive plays.

Saguaro opened the night with an early field goal attempt by #19, but it fell short. They struck first in the second quarterwhen #12 broke through for the game’s opening touchdown, and #19 nailed the extra point. On the very next series, O’Connor’s #9 lost the ball on a fumble, recovered by #87 to set Saguaro up with prime field position. Saguaro’s #8 capitalized, punching in another score. The extra point attempt just missed the upright, keeping it a one-score game. O’Connor answered before the half with a touchdown from #84, but a mishandled hold kept the extra point off the board.

In the third quarter, O’Connor found momentum as #9 connected with #84 on a 40-yard strike, followed by another touchdown from #84 and a clean kick from #33 to take the lead. Saguaro responded quickly—#6 powered into the end zone, and #8 converted the two-point try to swing the lead back.

O’Connor tried to rally in the final quarter, but Saguaro’s #6 came up with a clutch interception, while #74 managed to deflect a key pass to keep things tight. Saguaro attempted another field goal late, but it fell short. Strong defense in the closing minutes sealed the win for the Sabercats.
