Trevor G. Browne Snaps Six-Game Losing Streak With 6-0 Shutout Over South Mountain
Trevor G. Browne ended its six-game losing streak Tuesday evening with a 6-0 victory over South Mountain in a girls varsity flag football matchup at South Mountain High School. The Bruins relied on a first-quarter touchdown reception from Audrina Ramos and a shutout defensive performance to secure the 6A Metro victory.
The Bruins struck with 3:16 remaining in the opening quarter when No. 10 Audrina Ramos caught a touchdown pass to give Trevor G. Browne a 6-0 advantage. The ensuing two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful, leaving the Bruins with a six-point lead.
Ramos credited her ability to recognize the defensive coverage and find open space for the game's only touchdown.
"I saw the defenders focused on my teammates slant to the right and saw an opening on the left side of the field and I made it towards that way and my quarterback saw what I saw," Ramos explained following the victory.
The touchdown proved to be the difference as neither team added points during the remaining three quarters.
South Mountain entered the second quarter trailing by six, but Trevor G. Browne's defense prevented the Jaguars from reaching the end zone. The Bruins carried their 6-0 advantage into halftime, keeping the contest within one possession.
The defensive battle continued through the third quarter, with both teams held scoreless. Trevor G. Browne maintained its narrow advantage heading into the final period.
In the fourth quarter, the Bruins completed the shutout, holding South Mountain scoreless through the final whistle and securing their first victory following six consecutive losses.
Following the game, Ramos emphasized the importance of the team's collective effort and improved mindset in producing the defensive performance.
"The team work, discipline, and everyone keeping each others head high is what was different that allowed us to compete in a better and competitive way compared to how our previous games were," Ramos said.
Beyond the final score, the victory represented an important moment for a Trevor G. Browne team looking to rebuild confidence after a difficult stretch.
"This means a lot we’ve been holding our heads down, and doubting each other a lot so getting this win showed us that we have it in us and to show our potential that we couldn’t see ourselves so it feels refreshing to be back up again," Ramos shared.
With Ramos providing the game's only touchdown and the defense delivering four scoreless quarters, Trevor G. Browne completed a 6-0 shutout that ended its six-game losing streak and returned the Bruins to the win column.
