Vikings Surge Past Knights

In a state championship showdown packed with intensity from start to finish, Sunnyslope closed strong in the fourth quarter to pull away from St. Mary’s and capture a 60–51 victory.

The game opened with both teams trading controlled possessions, each feeling out the moment under the championship spotlight. St. Mary’s held a slight edge after the first quarter, leading 11–10, using disciplined ball movement and timely scoring to stay just ahead. Sunnyslope responded in the second quarter, tightening things up defensively and finding better rhythm offensively to take a narrow 25–24 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the break, St. Mary’s made its push. The Knights picked up the pace and capitalized on key opportunities, building momentum throughout the third quarter to take a 43–39 advantage heading into the final frame. With the title within reach, it set the stage for a decisive fourth quarter.

That’s when Sunnyslope flipped the switch.

The Vikings elevated their energy on both ends of the floor, turning defensive stops into fast-paced scoring opportunities. Shots began to fall, the tempo shifted, and the pressure mounted on St. Mary’s. Sunnyslope poured in 21 points in the fourth quarter, overwhelming the Knights down the stretch while holding them to just 8 points. What had been a tight battle quickly turned into a controlled finish as Sunnyslope seized command in the closing minutes.
