Trevor G. Browne Opens Season With 20-3 Victory Over Central

Trevor G. Browne opened its girls varsity flag football season with a 20-3 victory over Central on Tuesday night at Central High School, giving the Bruins a 1-0 start to the season.

The Bruins established control early, scoring eight unanswered points in the opening quarter to take an 8-0 advantage over the Bobcats.

Central responded in the second quarter with its first points of the game. The Bobcats held Trevor G. Browne scoreless during the period and put three points on the board, cutting the Bruins' advantage to 8-3 heading into halftime.

Trevor G. Browne pulled away after the break. The Bruins added 12 points in the third quarter while keeping Central off the scoreboard, extending their lead to 20-3.

Neither team scored in the fourth quarter, allowing Trevor G. Browne to close out the 20-3 season-opening victory.

Following the game, sophomore Vianney Garcia reflected on the Bruins' performance and the areas where the team can continue improving.

"Honestly, I felt like our team has a lot of potential and we did really great," Garcia said. "There was a couple mistakes we could fix on, but apart from that, we did pretty great. We won our first game."

When asked about the biggest key to the team's performance, Garcia pointed to the Bruins' ability to work together.

"Honestly, teamwork, and we got to have respect towards each other," Garcia said. "But apart from that, just teamwork."

Trevor G. Browne's coaching staff also praised the team's effort throughout the opener, noting that the girls stayed focused and played hard throughout the game.

The coaching staff identified maintaining focus with a lead as one of the team's challenges, noting that the players began to feel the game was over before it had ended.
