SW Futures upset Jackalopes
SW Futures came out strong at the USSSA Bell Sports Gear Classic (1.24–1.25.26) at Red Mountain Baseball Park, earning an 11–0 win over the Jackalopes from New Mexico, who traveled to Arizona for tournament play. A big first inning set the tone and gave Futures control early.
SW Futures scored eight runs in the first inning, using patient at-bats and smart base running to jump ahead fast. They added two more runs in the second inning and one in the fifth to close out the game.
Several Futures players had big days at the plate. T. Raftery went 2-for-3, scored twice, and drove in a run. A. Gomez came through with a two-RBI hit and also picked up the win on the mound. I. Mendez added a two-RBI hit, while T. Demaree and N. Meredith each drove in a run. J. Guerrero scored twice and reached base multiple times, helping keep the offense moving all game.
The pitching was locked in from start to finish. B. Shelly started the game and was dominant, striking out eight batters in three innings without allowing a hit. A. Gomez finished the game with two scoreless innings and three strikeouts. The Futures pitching staff combined for 11 strikeouts and allowed no hits.
The Jackalopes competed after the long trip from New Mexico, with A. Green pitching 4.2 innings and striking out five batters, but they were unable to break through against the Futures pitching.

Dirt Dawgs Shut Out SW Futures
Dirt Dawgs picked up a 4–0 win over SW Futures during the USSSA Bell Sports Gear Classic (1.24–1.25.26), using strong pitching and a big fifth inning to break through in a tight game.
The first four innings were a pitcher’s duel, with both teams keeping the scoreboard quiet. Dirt Dawgs stayed patient at the plate, and in the fifth inning, they finally pushed four runs across to take control of the game.
Several Dirt Dawgs players stepped up offensively. K. Karnbach led the way with two hits, while M. Vargas added a double and scored a run. D. Custer and S. Robinson also chipped in hits as the Dawgs put together quality at-bats when it mattered most.
The Dirt Dawgs pitching staff was outstanding from start to finish. T. Ruiz started the game and threw three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out four. Tanner followed with three shutout innings of his own, giving up only one hit and striking out three. M. Vargas closed the door in the final inning to secure the shutout. Together, the Dawgs pitchers struck out eight and held SW Futures to just three hits.
SW Futures battled defensively and kept the game close early. T. Raftery, B. Shelly, and A. Herrera each recorded a hit, while the pitching duo of K. Hutton and T. Demaree worked through traffic and limited damage outside of the fifth inning.
