Teams such as Williams Field High School (62.5), Perry High School (54.0), and Brophy College Preparatory (48.0) also made strong showings in the rankings.

Canyon View High School emerged as the clear leader in the D2 Arizona State Wrestling Championships, finishing with a dominant score of 239.0. Campo Verde High School followed in second place with 120.5, just edging out Arizona College Prep by a narrow margin of 1 point, as they finished with 119.5 points. Ironwood High School (109.5) and Horizon High School (107.5) completed the top five, each demonstrating strong performances throughout the competition.

Teams such as Cienega High School (96.0), Deer Valley High School (87.0), and Buena High School (78.0) also made notable contributions to the overall team scores, securing positions in the top eight.

In the middle of the pack, Maricopa High School and Mountain View (Marana) High School both tied for ninth place with 58.5 points. Raymond S. Kellis High School (58.0) and Bradshaw Mountain (55.0) followed closely behind.

Sahuarita High School stood out as the top team in the D3 Arizona State Wrestling Championships, earning an impressive 250.5 points. American Leadership Academy - Gilbert North finished in second place with 155.0 points, well ahead of Salpointe Catholic High School (105.0) and Walden Grove High School (104.5), who claimed the third and fourth spots, respectively.

The competition for the top five was close, with Mohave High School (79.0), Cactus Shadows High School (72.5), and Snowflake High School (72.0) rounding out the top seven. Eastmark High School (64.5) and Show Low High School(63.5) also performed strongly, finishing in eighth and ninth place.

In the mid-tier of the rankings, Poston Butte High School (63.0), Mica Mountain High School (59.5), and Crismon High School (57.5) continued to demonstrate solid performances, while Agua Fria High School (52.5) and Coconino High School (50.5) rounded out the top 15.

At the bottom of the team standings, Florence High School, Greenway High School, Paradise Honors High School, and Sabino all finished with 0 points, indicating challenges throughout the tournament.

In one of the most intense battles of the tournament, Sahuarita High School’s Daniel Guerrero triumphed in the 132-pound weight class. 160-D3: Nicholas Munoz’s Confident Journey

D4 Team Scores

Santa Cruz Valley Union High School emerged as the dominant team in the D4 Arizona State Wrestling Championships, finishing first with 229.5 points. Mogollon High School secured second place with a solid score of 166.5, while Yuma Catholic High School followed closely in third place with 141.5 points. St. Johns High Schoolrounded out the top four with 134.0 points.

The battle for fifth place was tight, with Morenci High School earning 113.0 points, closely pursued by Pima High School with 97.5. Page High School (61.5) and Thatcher High School (61.0) held strong in seventh and eighth, respectively.

Mid-tier performances included Payson High School and Somerton High School, both finishing with 54.0 points, while Bagdad High School (51.0) and Blue Ridge High School (45.5) continued to show competitive results.

Further down, Arizona Lutheran Academy (42.5) and Phoenix Christian Preparatory School (42.0) showed promise, but Wickenburg High School (41.5) and Benjamin Franklin High School (40.0) ultimately edged them out for spots in the top 15.

The Arizona State Wrestling Championships brought together some of the state’s top wrestling talent, with high schools from across the region competing fiercely for the coveted state titles. This year’s competition saw outstanding performances from teams in both Division 1 and Division 2, each showcasing their unique skills and determination.


Division 1: Sunnyside High School Dominates

The Division 1 championship proved to be a true test of skill and endurance. Sunnyside High School emerged as the dominant force, securing first place with an impressive 142.0 points. Their consistent victories across multiple weight classes ensured they remained atop the standings, and they left little room for competitors to catch up.

  • Sunnyside High School (142.0 points): With standout performances from their wrestlers, Sunnyside set the standard for excellence in Division 1.
  • Liberty High School (85.0 points): Liberty made a strong push for the top spot, with solid individual results throughout the event.

The Middle Tier: The battle for positions four through ten was tight. Basha High School finished fourth with 66.0 points, followed closely by Pueblo High School with 58.0 points. Cienega rounded out the top six with 57.0 points. Canyon Del Oro High School (54.5 points) and Gila Ridge High School (50.0 points) showed their strength but couldn’t make it to the podium. Youngker High School placed eighth with 47.5 points.

Close Behind: Centennial High School earned 46.0 points, finishing in tenth place, while Willow Canyon (42.0 points) and Casteel High School (41.0 points) fought hard but fell short of the top ten.

Disappointments: Among the more surprising finishes were Canyon View High School (14th place, 40.0 points) and Verrado High School and Washington High School, who failed to score any points in the competition. These results were unexpected, especially considering the level of talent on display throughout the event.


Division 2: Mica Mountain and the Fierce Competition

In Division 2, Mica Mountain High School showcased their depth, taking first place with 101.5 points. Their performance was a testament to their skill and strategy, and they proved to be the team to beat in this highly competitive division.

Benjamin Franklin High School, Marcos de Niza High School, and Poston Butte High School all tied for fifth place with 61.0 points, showcasing the competitive nature of Division 2. Greenway (51.5 points) and Odyssey Institute (47.0 points) weren’t far behind, with Arizona Lutheran Academy (40.0 points) rounding out the top eleven.


The Fight for the Top 10: Chinle High School, Lee Williams High School, and Morenci High School all finished with 39.0 points, continuing to demonstrate how closely matched teams were throughout the competition.


Surprises and Disappointments: One of the most surprising finishes came from American Leadership Academy - Ironwood, which scored only 7.0 points, far below expectations. On the other hand, Mesquite High School and Desert Sunrise High School, both finishing with 32.5 points, exceeded their predicted results, showing that Division 2’s talent pool is as deep as ever.

Several teams failed to score any points, including Betty H. Fairfax High School, Cactus, Camp Verde, and Dysart High School, which were among the bottom-ranked teams.
