Vikings Answer Late, Claim 1A State Championship

Williams and Mogollon met on the biggest stage of the season with the 1A State Championship on the line, and the Vikings delivered when the moment demanded it most.

Williams jumped out early, scoring two runs in the first inning before adding two more in the third to build a 4–0 lead. The Vikings looked locked in at the plate, putting pressure on Mogollon with steady contact and aggressive baserunning. But championship games rarely stay quiet, and the Mustangs came charging back in the fourth.

Mogollon flipped the energy with a five-run fourth inning, taking a 5–4 lead and turning the game into a battle. The Mustangs found life offensively behind Brody Porter, who finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, Quinn Tenney, who added two hits, and Yoyo Suarez, who drove in a run. For a moment, Mogollon had the momentum and the championship pressure sitting squarely on Williams.

Then the Vikings answered like a championship team.

Williams erupted for six runs in the sixth inning, completely changing the game and taking control for good. The Vikings finished with 14 hits, using a deep offensive attack to pull away late. Cade Trimble led the charge with a huge performance, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a double. Mario Pedraza also came through in a major way, finishing 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a triple, while Rocque Montoya, Jace Maebe, and Anthony Soto each added two hits.

On the mound, Williams leaned on Pedraza for six strong innings. He allowed five runs, but only one was earned, while striking out five and working through the biggest stretch of the game. Aiden Uebel also helped seal the effort with one scoreless inning, allowing just one hit and striking out one.

Mogollon battled hard and made Williams earn every bit of it, especially after their fourth-inning rally gave them the lead. But Williams had the final answer, and their sixth-inning explosion became the championship swing that decided the game.

When the dust settled, the Vikings stood on top with a 10–5 win, 14 hits, and a 1A State Championship finish powered by timely hitting, composure, and one massive late-game response.
